Ngāti Kahungunu says they've been tricked into supporting a Provincial Growth Funded water project they vehemently oppose.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council was awarded more than $30 million from the fund for water security projects in August, after the region's leaders signed a letter of support for the package.
But the iwi says the letter it signed gave no indication those projects included controversial technologies like river augmentation, which it does not support.
