Westland Mayor explains protest against government policies

From Morning Report, 7:54 am on 18 November 2019

Thousands of West Coast residents attended a protest in Greymouth yesterday to share their concerns about what they see as restrictive government policies.

This includes the proposed national policy statement on indigenous biodiversity, which could see another 35 percent of private land on the West Coast set aside as significant natural area.

Other worries are blocks to electricity generation proposals and new freshwater regulations.

Bruce Smith is the Westland District Mayor.
