Parents out of pocket after 17yo son's disability care dropped as he's too old

From Morning Report, 6:12 am on 18 November 2019

The mother of a disabled boy says she will have to mortgage her home so her son can get to school because he's now too old to qualify for government support.

Rachel Lodewyk's 17-year-old son Oliver suffers from Morquio Sydnrome.

It's a rare, inherited condition, which has confined him to a wheelchair since he was seven.

But because he's turned 16, his parents will have to pay for changes to their home so he can come and go on his own.

Rachel Lodewyk spoke to reporter Catherine Hutton.
