The fate of RNZ and TVNZ may soon be in the hands of Cabinet ministers, as they consider a proposal to disestablish both broadcasters and create an entirely new public media entity.
The Government is moving on plans for public broadcasting in New Zealand as the media industry faces an uncertain future.
RNZ understands the proposal to create a new entity is making its way through the political process, with the plan to have it before Cabinet in early December.
