Midwife says Oranga Tamariki review raises more questions

A midwife who helped to stop Oranga Tamariki taking a newborn baby from his young mother says a scathing review of the case raises more questions about the hundreds of other infants who've been removed from their whanau.

The Ministry's own report into the attempted uplift of the baby from Hawkes Bay Hospital shows staff were right to step in but relied on old information and didn't try hard enough to place the child with other relatives.

It's promising families will now get a say before judges make an interim custody order but critics are questioning whether there will be any real change.
