Early days for Luxon's political career - commentator

From Morning Report, 8:12 am on 6 November 2019

National Party leader Simon Bridges is predicting a bright future for party newcomer Christopher Luxon, who's been chosen to contest the Botany Bay seat held by independent Jami-Lee Ross.

The former Air New Zealand chief executive was selected for the traditionally very safe National seat on Sunday night. Within hours he made headlines when he said he'd favour trimming Family Support payments to parents who don't vaccinate their children.

That prompted questions about whether he was already getting ahead of himself given the party's yet to state its policy position.

But Simon Bridges says it's part of a learning process.

So how might Mr Luxon's new career play out?
