Firefighters were called out to 72 blazes last night all of them sparked by fireworks and most of them in Auckland.
The largest fires were on Mount Wellington and Mount Eden. Ben Hocking, who was watching the evening's fireworks from the vantage point of Mount Hobson, describes the fire that broke out in the crater on Mount Eden.
