Mercury transit to be visible from New Zealand in November

New Zealanders will be able to see the rare transit of Mercury an astronomer on Captain Cook's first voyage to Aotearoa observed 250 years ago in a little under two weeks.

The transit will happen on 12 November and won't happen again until 2039.

In the leadup to the event a nationwide tour of astronomers will begin on Tuesday.
