75 years since Polish refugees arrived in Pahiatua

From Morning Report, 7:56 am on 1 November 2019

Seventy-five years ago today, 703 Polish children traded in Persia for Pahiatua as the first refugees to New Zealand.

The mostly orphaned children arrived by boat from what's now Iran to their new home on 1 November 1944.

This weekend the now-elderly refugee children and their families will gather in Wellington and the Wairarapa to commemorate their arrival here.

RNZ reporter Charlotte Cook joined two of the remaining original 'Polish Pahiatua Children'.
