A worker at Dunedin's KiwiRail workshop says the degree of reinvestment from the Provincial Growth Fund is a huge turnaround.
Nearly $20 million from the fund has been pledged to upgrade the Hillside engineering workshop.
The money will help re-establish the workshop as a mechanical hub and engineering facility to service and maintain KiwiRail's trains.
Peter Buckley started working for KiwiRail 25 years ago and narrowly missed losing his job when Hillside was mostly closed down in 2012.
He told Corin Dann the money would save the facility.
