Voluntary euthanasia referendum likely next year

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 24 October 2019

New Zealanders are likely to face a referendum next year on whether to legalise voluntary euthanasia after a make-or-break vote in Parliament last night. MPs voted 63 to 57 to amend the End of Life Choice Bill to make it dependent on there being a binding public vote in favour. The legislation still needs to pass its third and final reading in Parliament next month, but a green-light for a referendum means that's much more likely.
