National rails against meth dealer sentencing flexibility

The National Party has railed against a landmark court ruling which allows judges more flexibility when sentencing meth dealers - and says it would consider legislating to overrule it. A Court of Appeal judgment issued yesterday overhauled sentencing guidelines and encouraged judges to take into consideration an offender's background. National's justice spokesperson Mark Mitchell told our deputy political editor Craig McCulloch he disagreed with the judgment.
