Ak Port status quo to cost $9.5b, moving to Northland $10b

From Morning Report, 7:38 am on 4 October 2019

The chair of the working group which is recommending moving Auckland's port to Northland says doing so would only cost 800-million dollars more than keeping them where they are...and would bring significant benefits. The Government's Upper North Island Supply Chain Strategy group expects moving to Northport near Whangarei would cost just over 10-billion dollars... but staying in Auckland, where significant road, rail and port upgrades are needed, would cost 9-and-a-half billion. The group says the move offers the largest benefit-to-cost ratio, of two to one, of all the options it studied. The Associate Minister of Transport Shane Jones says it will be the epic infrastructure project of his generation.
