From Morning Report, 7:29 am on 4 October 2019

Preparations in Gisborne are ramping up ahead of the Tuia 250 commemorations, as the East Coast region confronts its fraught colonial history. 10-thousand people are expected to converge on the city over the next week to see the waka hourua, and tall ships come ashore, as they did 800, and 250 years ago. respectively. The commemorations are also a painful reminder, for local iwi, of their ancestors who were killed by the Endeavour crew, and protest groups will be running their own events. Meriana Johnsen reports.
