Pike River families travel to 170-metre seal

From Morning Report, 7:24 am on 3 October 2019

The families of the men killed in the Pike River mining disaster will go back into the mine this morning. It was nine years ago when 29 men were killed when the mine exploded. Today the families will go right to where the mine is sealed - 170 metres into the drift. It will be the last chance for them to enter before full recovery of the 2.3 kilometre tunnel begins. Sonya Rockhouse whose son Ben was one of 29 who died in the coal mine blast told Corin Dann she was feeling excited ahead of the visit.
