Epilepsy meds switch-up affects thousands

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 30 September 2019

People with epilepsy say their lives are being turned upside down by seizures after the government drug buying agency, Pharmac, pulled funding for their medicines in a cost savings drive. Multiple patients have been having seizures, which they attribute to switching to a generic form of lamotrigine called Logem. RNZ has also learned that the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA), acting on concerns from MedSafe, is now recommending some patients who are making the drug switch consider an eight-week voluntary stand down from driving. Guyon Espiner reports.
