Hutt Mayor deleted texts about retirement home’s plumbing

Texts the Hutt City Council told RNZ did not exist about a retirement complex's seriously bad plumbing were in fact sent to the mayor who deleted them. A plumber also sent Mayor Ray Wallace nine photos showing the gunk in the drains, but the council also failed to provide these when RNZ asked for them. A spokesperson says the texts were 'transitory' and the mayor did not need to keep them under laws governing public communications. Phil Pennington reports.
