$6m fund to protect NZ's manuka honey brand from Australia

The Government is allocating nearly $6 million to the campaign to stop Australian beekeepers marketing their products as "Manuka" honey. The Manuka Honey Appellation Society has been granted funding through the Provincial Growth Fund, to help its efforts to get a certification mark in key markets, such as China. Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones told our political reporter Yvette McCullough he's concerned Australian honey producers are trying to steal New Zealand property rights.
