Petition to improve welfare system to be delivered to the PM

From Morning Report, 6:19 am on 23 September 2019

A petition will be delivered to Jacinda Ardern's electorate office in Auckland this morning calling for urgent changes to the welfare system. A group working to help the homeless get back on their feet says people on benefits need to be able to earn more before their payments are docked. From April next year, the abatement threshold for people on jobseeker benefits will increase from $80 a week to $90. It will continue to increase by $5 a year to $105 in 2023. But Moira Lawler from Lifewise told RNZ's social issues reporter Sarah Robson that's not enough.
