1300 strangulation charges laid since December
Thirteen hundred charges of strangulation have been laid since it became a separate offence last December. So far there have been 47 convictions, but most cases have not yet come to court. Making strangulation a separate offence is one of a raft of law changes aimed at tackling New Zealand's domestic violence epidemic.
