Loch Ness Monster: Fiction or giant eel?
The Loch Ness Monster is one of Scotland's oldest and most enduring tales. It inspires books, TV shows and films, and sustains a major tourism industry around its home. Now scientists are saying Nessie, could be pure fiction - or just a really, really large eel. The fabled creature has captured people's attention, or imagination, since its first reported sighting in the sixth century. Researchers from the University of Otago have been investigating the environmental DNA present in the Loch Ness. An Otago University geneticist, Professor Neil Gemmell, says they may have gotten closer to catching a monster - of sorts.
