It's been billed as the country's newest 'great walk', and money from the Provincial Growth Fund is expected to allow thousands more people to get a chance to check out the sights on the Taranaki Crossing.
An existing network of 30 kilometres of tracks, will be expanded and upgraded. A walk from Dawson Falls to the end of Mangorei road at the base of the Pouakai Ranges will also be created.
