Turmoil in UK parliament, MPs debate potential election

From Morning Report, 8:11 am on 5 September 2019

There's turmoil in the UK parliament where MPs are debating PM Boris Johnson's attempts to call a snap election next month.

He wants to go to the polls on October the 15th after British MPs earlier today passed a bill to block a no-deal Brexit.

Opposition MPs and Tory rebels voted in favour of the Bill 327 votes to 299, to force the Prime Minister to ask for an extension beyond October 31st if a Brexit deal isn't reached.

Mr Johnson says that bill forces him to surrender in the negotiations, and he's tabled a motion for a snap election on October the 15th.
