British PM threatens election if rebel MPs delay no-deal Brexit

From Morning Report, 7:35 am on 3 September 2019

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is warning he will trigger a general election if rebel conservative MPs join forces with the opposition to delay a no-deal Brexit.

Addressing reporters, Mr Johnson said those pushing for an extension are trying to 'cut the legs off' the government's negotiating strategy with Brussels.

Former prime minister Tony Blair has described the threat of a general election as setting a trap for the opposition - to obtain a no-deal Brexit by default while an election is held.
