San Fran fights the rise of vaping, removes e-cigs from shelves

San Francisco has voted to ban the sale and distribution of e-cigarettes in an effort to curb the rise of youth vaping.

The measure will now go for final approval to San Francisco's mayor, who has already said she will sign the legislation.

Shops in the city will be required to remove e-cigarettes - such as the popular brand JUUL - from their shelves after the change goes into effect in seven months' time.

Dr Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, a professor of pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, says new tobacco products are supposed to have FDA approval before they are sold to the public. She spoke to Susie Ferguson.
