Coping with the heat and humidity is dominating New Zealand's planning just under a year out from the Tokyo Olympics.

A range of test events are being held in the Japanese capital to check preparedness for the games next year.

Last week the women's triathlon test event cut the 10 kilometre run section to just 5 kilometres because it was too hot.

New Zealand team chef de mission Rob Waddell is in Tokyo for an officials meetings and told RNZ sports editor Stephen Hewson he believes the heat issue could work in favour of New Zealand athletes.
