Protesters shut down Hong Kong airport, flights cancelled

From Morning Report, 6:42 am on 13 August 2019

Hong Kong's airport was shut down overnight and all flights were cancelled after thousands of protestors occupied the terminal.

The action was the fourth day of a sit-in, which had intensified on Monday as protesters demanded an inquiry into what they see as excessive police violence at the weekend.

But China has defended the police behaviour and is now saying the protesters are showing "the first signs of terrorism".

RNZ correspondent in Beijing Patrick Fok says China appears to be losing patience with the protests.
