Hawke's Bay is being warned it could become the new Canterbury if it continues down the path of large-scale irrigation and water storage projects.
Freshwater ecologist Mike Joy issued the warning while speaking at an event in Havelock North last night.
But locals say Hawke's Bay has a dire need for more water storage and irrigation, and it will not repeat Canterbury's mistakes. Anusha Bradley reports.
