Health Minister details new cancer radiation treatment

From Morning Report, 8:23 am on 5 August 2019

It's hoped the upgrade of cancer radiation machines will make cancer treatment more accessible - and more consistent - around the country.

Half of the 24 existing public radiation machines will be replaced over the next three years, and the government says patients in Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and Northland will have access to local radiation treatment for the first time.

Currently one in three people with cancer are using radiation treatment, even though one in two would benefit from its use.

Health Minister David Clark says the funding certainty will help DHBs plan ahead.
