DHB chair's 'our Māori' comment patronising - Rhys Jones

From Morning Report, 8:40 am on 5 August 2019

A Māori health lecturer says a comment by the Northland District Health Board chair referring to "our Māori" was patronising.

On Morning Report on Friday, Sally McCauley was defending her board's efforts to eliminate racism or bias in its services.

Dr Rhys Jones - a senior lecturer in Māori Health at Auckland University - says the phrase "our Māori" was unfortunate.

He told Lois Williams while it was no doubt well-meaning, Māori health statistics show Māori are on the end of unconscious racial bias by doctors and nurses.
