Education Minister defends polytech overhaul

The government has put aside $200 million for its overhaul of apprenticeships and polytechnics.

On Thursday it announced widespread changes including merging the 16 stand alone polytechnics into a single national institute with more than 100,000 students.

But in a Cabinet paper released by Education Minister Chris Hipkins the total bill appears to be double the amount set aside.
