A Whanganui migrant advocate says local Maori should concentrate on dragging themselves out of poverty rather than worrying about the small number of refugees due to be resettled in the city.
But others say an iwi leader - who wants the city's housing crisis to be sorted before refugees are welcomed - has a point.
