Putin critic released from Moscow hospital

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 30 July 2019

One of President Vladimir Putin's most prominent critics has been discharged from hospital after falling ill while in a Moscow prison.

Initial reports suggested Alexei Navalny had suffered an acute allergic reaction, but his doctor says he doesn't have any allergies and his symptoms may indicate poisoning.

The news of his health has caused alarm in a country where the opposition politician Boris Nemtsov was shot dead outside the Kremlin in 2015.

Mr Navalny is in prison after calling for unauthorised protests against the exclusion of opposition candidates from local Moscow elections.
