Further faults with flawed Boeing software system

From Morning Report, 8:42 am on 29 July 2019

A New York Times investigation has found further faults with Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration charged with regulating the industry.

At issue is the troubled Boeing 737 Max and a new software system which contributed to two accidents killing a total of 346 people.

The New York Times reports that the FAA didn't understand the risks of the new software, and allowed Boeing to assess the safety of the system itself.

An FAA official revealed that by 2018, the agency was letting Boeing self-certify 96 percent of its own work.
