National should share blame for lack of cancer care - Clark

From Morning Report, 6:08 am on 29 July 2019

Health Minister David Clark intends to outline his plan to improve cancer services in the coming weeks, as National unveils a policy to establish a new national agency.

Its leader, Simon Bridges, made the announcement as his main pitch to voters at the annual conference in Christchurch at the weekend.

He said a National government would establish a dedicated $200-million fund, over four years, for cancer treatment.

Mr Bridges accused the coalition government of wasteful spending while New Zealanders miss out on life saving treatment.

Speaking to RNZ's poltical editor, Jane Patterson, Mr Clark said National had to take some responsibility for the current state of cancer services.
