Up to 150 migrants drown off Libya coast

From Morning Report, 7:24 am on 26 July 2019

Up to 150 migrants have drowned off the coast of Libya.

A further 150 people were rescued by fishermen and returned to Libya by coastguards.

It is not clear if the migrants were on one or two boats that left the Libyan town of al Khoms, some 120km east of Tripoli.

If confirmed, it would be the deadliest shipwreck in the Mediterranean so far this year.

Leonard Doyle from the International Organization for Migration tells Susie Ferguson the conditions the refugees are facing are awful.
