Wellington buses: 30 cancelled daily, no quick fix in sight

From Morning Report, 6:18 am on 26 July 2019

Wellington's regional and city councils were hauled before a parliamentary select committee yesterday to explain the failings of the city's new bus network.

The regional council operates the network across the region, while the city council is responsible for bus stops, bus lanes and priority traffic lights within the city.

A year into the problem-plagued overhaul of the capital's bus network, about 30 bus services are cancelled every day, and users still complain of late and inconsistent services.

Darryn Ponter from the Greater Wellington Regional Council told RNZ reporter Michael Cropp in hindsight, their council should have been willing to spend more money up front.
