'Not a witch hunt' - Mueller counters Trump at Congress

From Morning Report, 7:23 am on 25 July 2019

Former FBI director Robert Mueller has told the US Congress his inquiry into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election was not a witch hunt.

Appearing before a congressional committee, he said he found evidence of interference and that President Donald Trump had attempted to obstruct the inquiry.

But Justice Department rules meant he could not take the next step and determine whether Mr Trump had committed a crime.

Colorado Republican Ken Buck asked if Mr Trump could be criminally charged after he left office.

Answering questions from Democrat Adam Schiff, Mr Mueller outlined the extent of Russian interference and the relationships between members of the Trump team and Russia.
