Firefighters prepare for electric car fires that 'don't go out'

From Morning Report, 8:20 am on 23 July 2019

They're described as the fires that just don't go out - firefighters are learning it takes nearly ten times more water to put out an electric vehicle battery fire, compared with a petrol or diesel car. And to add to their burden, the flames can spark back into life for several days after they've been put out.

Fire and Emergency is gearing up for the influx of electric vehicles, or EVs, expected to reach New Zealand shores in the coming years when the Clean Car Subsidy takes effect from 2021.
