Man with Down Syndrome wins access to KiwiSaver funds

From Morning Report, 8:22 am on 22 July 2019

A man with Down Syndrome has won his campaign to get early access to his KiwiSaver funds.

Tim Fairhall petitioned the government last year to let him take out his savings early - as his condition means he's unlikely to live until 65 when KiwiSaver is usually paid out.

On Sunday the government announced it will change the rules for people with congenital life-shortening conditions.

Tim Fairhall told a select committee last year what he wanted to do with his money.

Tim's mother Joan says the law change will affect many people.
