Talking trade more important than Trump's tweets - Peters

From Morning Report, 7:24 am on 22 July 2019

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters has returned from a visit to the United States where he spoke at an event promoting religious freedom.

Last week on Morning Report, the Prime Minister was asked about racist comments US President Donald Trump had made about four Democratic congresswomen of colour - Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.

Mr Trump had tweeted that the women - three of whom were born in the US - should "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came."

Ms Ardern rejected President Trump's stance.

Mr Peters joins Corin Dann to discuss details of his US visit and the need for a bilateral free trade deal between New Zealand and the US.
