Rare snail under threat by Wellington mountain bikers

From Morning Report, 8:22 am on 10 July 2019

An ecological group is warning the survival of a rare type of snail is being threatened by the actions of a small group of mountain bikers.

The Potamopyrgus oppidanus, discovered in 2003, is found only on one hill in a suburb of Wellington.

But a few mountain bikers, who are chopping down trees to make their own unauthorised trails, are threatening its habitat.
