Stoats to follow swarms of rats in NZ bush, govt warned

From Morning Report, 8:52 am on 2 July 2019

Forest and Bird is calling on the government and councils to increase their 1080 predator control, saying rats are running riot through the nation's forest and tussock land.

The environmental group says a bumper crop of autumn seeds has fuelled a rat plague but warns the worst is yet to come, with a plague of stoats predicted next.

Pete Morton is the Conservation Department's predator control programme coordinator. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
