Renters urged to speak up if homes not insulated

From Morning Report, 6:41 am on 1 July 2019

The Greens are encouraging renters to dob in their slack landlords to the Tenancy Tribunal if they haven't properly insulated their properties.

And they're calling for authorities to take a zero tolerance approach. From today, landlords can be ordered to pay up to $4,000 to their tenants for not providing floor and ceiling insulation where possible.

Last month Ministry officials estimated as many as 100,000 properties were still not up to scratch, despite their owners having had three years' warning.

Green Party co-leader Marama Davidson told RNZ deputy political editor Craig McCulloch renters deserve to have warm, dry homes.
