Makhlouf's Budget breach response 'not sackable' - Hughes

From Morning Report, 6:42 am on 28 June 2019

Treasury Secretary Gabriel Makhlouf has officially left his job after eight years, but not without a black mark on his resume.

The final weeks of his employment, before starting as the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, have been marred by his handing of the so-called budget hack, or lack of.

A State Services Commision report found Mr Makhlouf did not act reasonably in his description of the breach or his explanations to media.

He escaped disciplinary action, but State Services Commissioner Peter Hughes told reporters that he was somewhat constrained with it being Mr Makhlouf's last day.
