Election day voting enrolments - legal analysis

For the first time voters will be able to register to vote on election day next year.

The government announced the law change, saying roughly 19,000 voters had their ballots disallowed last election day because they'd failed to enrol beforehand.

National says the proposal is a stitch-up and will benefit left-wing parties.

But Otago University law professor Andrew Geddis told RNZ deputy political editor Craig McCulloch the current law doesn't make sense.
