From Morning Report, 8:46 am on 19 June 2019

An 11-year girl playing for her school's XV has been told her team won't get any points if she takes to the field in an upcoming tournament.

Five principals from schools around Hawke's Bay have made the decision not to let Briar Hales from Havelock North Intermediate play - and she's been told she should play for the girl's team, not the boys.

Rugby teams are generally separated by gender at the secondary school age.

The spokesperson for the schools, Michael Sisam from Heretaunga Intermediate didn't want to be interviewed.
