Lawyer urges independent inquiry into Oranga Tamariki uplifts

From Morning Report, 8:19 am on 17 June 2019

The lawyer for a 19-year-old mother still wants an independent inquiry into Oranga Tamariki's attempt to take her client's newborn baby into state care.

Last month, Hawke's Bay Hospital was put into lockdown when a stand-off occurred between social workers and whānau of the young mother.

Oranga Tamariki will carry out its own inquiry but the findings will not be released to the public in full, something the Minister for Children Tracey Martin says the family is happy with.

Janet Mason is the lawyer acting for the mother in Hawkes Bay. She talks to Corin Dann.
