More speed cameras not good idea - Clive Matthew-Wilson

From Morning Report, 8:42 am on 12 June 2019

Calls by a government advisory group to dramatically increase the number of speed cameras and hike the cost of speeding tickets.

The Speed Reference Group led by the Ministry of Transport says New Zealand should look to follow Sweden's example. Sweden has close to 3,000 speed cameras. New Zealand has 50.

It also says all speed cameras should be signposted and because of that, people speeding should face much higher fines.

Dog and Lemon Guide editor Clive Matthew-Wilson is a road safety campaigner and a member of Auckland's newest transport lobby group Open the Books. He talks to Susie Ferguson.
