The National Party is cautiously supporting the government's plan to begin withdrawing New Zealand's troops from Iraq.
The Prime Minister announced on Monday that troops will be reduced over the coming year before the deployment ends altogether at the end of next June.
And while troops will remain in Afghanistan for another 18 months, their role will move towards more of a peace and security role.
